Problems filling that news hole...just write about yourself

Before my time at the Union-Recorder, there was some kind of editorial policy that allowed U-R reporters writing editorials about what's going on in their lives and how they perceive the world around them.
As newsroom resources continual to dwindle, not only here but everywhere in the newspapering world, maybe this'll be something we and other news outlets will look back into.
I see the Telegraph is already exploring this possibility.
Seems that our neighbor to the west is not only minimizing the imprint their publication has on the community, but they're actively seeking ways of downsizing the footprint their organization has in the community.
Don't characterize of it as a decline, think of it as a fun slide into the unknown.
